Violist Wendy Richman '97

Wendy Richman of the class of 1997 was inducted into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame in December 2024 at Whitefish Bay High School. She is considered to be one of the world’s top contemporary viola music specialists. She has been hailed internationally for her compelling sound and “absorbing”, “fresh and idiomatic” performances with “a brawny vitality” and imaginative interpretation. As soloist and chamber musician, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Metropolitan Museum of Art to name a few and at international festivals in Berlin,Darmstadt, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Karlsruhe, and Vienna.

Wendy is a founding member of the New York-based International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and still plays with the group 25 years later!

In addition to her work in contemporary repertoire, Wendy is equally at home performing standard orchestral and chamber music literature. She collaborates with a wide range of composers, commissioning pieces in which she sings and plays simultaneously!

Wendy credits both Bob Chase and Randy Swiggum as being an integral part of her musical upbringing, introducing her to some of the greatest pieces of music and nurturing her in ways she continues to discover so many years after graduation. Special thanks to both these musical mentors..

Wendy is definitely a sought after viola clinician at universities and conservatories across the country. She resides in California and her musical achievements are admired as she tours all over the USA and Europe.
